Extraordinary Times!

We are in extraordinary times. Yesterday history was made as the Democratic Convention officially nominated Barak Obama for President of the United States of America. Tonight History will be made again when he accepts the nomination.  It doesn’t matter what our individual political views are and no matter what the outcome is, we still must realize that we are in Extraordinary Times.

I want to challenge everyone to go out and exercise your right to vote in the upcoming election.  If you are not registered, get registered. Otherwise, when things don’t go the way you want or when policies are developed that you don’t agree with, you have no right to complain. Vote! Vote! Vote!

I have been working with a group of young people during this whole political process helping them to understand the importance of the times we are in and the process of the whole election stuff (yeah, I know–like I know the process!). Any way, as a final project, a few weeks ago we had to write an Inauguration Speech as if we were elected President.  I’ll share mine with you.

Proverbs 14:34 states, “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.”

Stay encouraged. Stay Prayerful and Stay in God’s presence!!!

My Inauguration Speech

Wow! The people have spoken. It is time for change.  I stand before you today humbled and ready to serve.  It has been a long journey and we are here at the avenue of change ready to turn the corner.  Many said it couldn’t be done.  Many have tried to silence out the desperate cries of the American people- But you have not been silenced. You could not be silenced.  You have been  heard.

-
Today we join as a people- not as politicians but as people united together for the cause of building a better America.  Together, we will tackle and conquer the situations that plague us.  We will build on the foundations of our strengths.  Together we will hold each other accountable for the change- for the difference- for the impact that we as individuals and we as a nation can and must make in our world!

No longer will we accept the loss of our children through unnecessary and crippling wars.  I’m not just talking about the wars being fought in Iran and Afghanistan– No- I’m talking about the wars that we fight every day right here at home.  I’m talking about the wars of poor education and of unacceptable high school drop out rates. I’m talking about the attack against the American family. I’m talking about the wars of moral decay- the wars of violence and unfair justice.  No longer will we accept defeat in the wars of outrageous gas prices, unfair and unobtainable medical health care, alarming home foreclosures, job closures and other things that cripple our economy and cripple our mind causing us to develop and operate in a poverty mentality!

We wanted change. Change is here.  You are the change that is needed.  Your voice carries weight and power.  Your actions carry weight and power. Your passion for this country- your commitment to this country- your belief that we can develop and build children and people of great character- great visionaries- will fuel the change process.  Your cries against injustice- Your demand for fair treatment will help birth the hope that has been dwelling and developing on the inside of us.

We have cried out that we don’t want recession, we demand progression! We want our sons and our daughters to have access to opportunities that we never had.  We want to give our youth back the power to dream, the ability to hope, the faith to believe, the resources to obtain, the opportunity to develop their gifts and talents and the courage to use them to make positive contributions in our society.

We want to give our older Americans the assurance that all their hard work was not in vain.  We want them to know that it is because of the seed they sowed, the wisdom they posses and the faith they had in God that helped us to get to where we are and it will help us keep going and growing and getting better.  After all they have done, they shouldn’t have to worry about whether they will be able to afford their health care or receive their social security. They should and must have a sense of peace and enjoyment knowing that their latter years will be ever greater than the former years.

We have to continue to support our troops overseas and at home.  We will make sure that they have the best resources and benefits for medical and mental health. Instead of abandoning them and making them fend for themselves after they have stood and defended us, we must and will defend them and take care of them.

We know that we are a powerful nation. We have the biggest fire power… but we also want to promote and set the example of friendship and peace among ourselves and among our neighboring countries. This nation will be exalted not by muscle flexing but by righteousness- by making right choices, setting right policies and treating people right.

We have to listen to the needs of the people.  We have to do what it takes to help build our nation, build and maintain a strong economy andd protect all classes of our families- create better jobs and develop ways to create more local energy sources instead of being dependent on other nations for their supply. We have to take care of our planet and deal with global warming.

We have work to do America.  It’s not easy work. We are getting ready to walk in extraordinary times!  We need you to get your hopes and expectations up and get ready to be a part- to be the heartbeat of this positive progression.  Every one can be a part of it.  Everyone can rise to this occasion.

Get ready young people! Get ready older people! Get ready people of all races and creeds and colors! We have need of you. We have great expectation of you. We have work to do. Let’s fortify ourselves. Let’s roll up our sleeves. Let’s have a mind to work, a heart to believe in the vision of a better and greater America. Let’s charge the atmosphere with hope and great expectation! We have work to do! It’s a great work and we will not allow the work to be left unfinished.  We are are a great people. We are a great nation destined to make great impacts, great discoveries and great positive and lasting changes not only here in American but in our world. We can do it.  We will do it. We must do it!!

I’m here to serve and lead.  I understand that the greatest leaders have servants hearts.  I don’t take this opportunity and charge lightly. I’m ready to do my part because I know I am not doing this alone.  With God’s guidance and strength and with the American people by my side, I’m not even worried. I know we will accomplish the job.  I know we are ready and the time is now. I am humbled today. I am humbled and I am ready!

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve and lead a great people.

God bless America and let America bless God.

Shining Through The Darkness

Last night as I stepped out of the vehicle, I couldn’t help but notice how the stars brightened up the night sky.  It wasmewen an absolutely beautiful site.  Actually, it was quite inspiring.  It was as if the stars and the light from the stars had broken through the darkness. All of that darkness couldn’t hold back the brightness of the stars.

I often think about the things that I go through that attempt to hold back my brightness or the things that tempt me to not fully walk in who I know I am meant to be. You know stuff like fear, tragedy, self doubt, unbelief, insecurities of other people, disappointments, subtle criticism from others… Then I am reminded like last night that the light that God has put on the inside of me can not be held back.  It cannot be overtaken or consumed with darkness.  It’s too powerful to be hidden.  It must break forth!  It has to be seen and seen overcoming darkness. Then it stands as a testimony of God’s goodness and greatness. It stands as a compass leading people in the direction of the Christ.

Tell me, what is it that God has put on the inside of you that you have allowed to be hidden?  What won’t you allow to shine through? What has occurred in your life or who has occurred in your life that caused the brightness of your light to go dim or caused you to question whether you are even supposed to shine?

Break forth!  As I break forth and as you break forth and as others break forth, we will be like those stars in the sky- not only twinkling but standing as a source of inspiration, a testament of God’s glory- compelling and provoking the light in others to break forth and be and do what it was created to do!

Come on and shine with me. I’m so incredibily tired of holding back, aren’t you?  Stir up your gifts. Use your talents. It’s in you awaiting your permission to break out.  Break through the faultiness of bad thinking! Break through the fear of failure or fear of success. Break through the negative voices of people who have told you, “Who do you think you are?” Break through the abusive relationship that tries to keep you confined-  the opinions of others that try to keep you defined. Break through the limits of your mind.

You were meant to shine.  You were meant to impact your surroundings. What is on the inside of you is needed.  Someone needs your light. They need to hear your words- your encouragement- your song. They need your smile and your wisdom and your knowledge and your expertise. Wow! Don’t hide it.

Matthew 5:14-16 states, “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

And of course, one of my favorite quotes is by Marianne Williamson. It states:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

God made you to be amazing.  You are a reflection of Him. You are stunning and breath taking. The light of God in you is powerful!  Let it break forth and do good. A little bit of light overcomes a whole lot of darkness. I challenge you to find opportunities to shine through the darkness. Find something to do- someone to inspire and guide.  Don’t be afraid of what God has put in you. Embrace who you are and break forth and shine. Ultimately, you won’t be satisfied until you do!

Stay in God’s presence!

CHOICES!

Well today’s date is 8-8-8. I kind of like those numbers. I am told that the number 8 means “new beginnings.” Sounds great to me. I can use some new beginnings. What about you? However, I started thinking about it… what do I do with a new beginning? Just because I am offered a new beginning- a fresh start- doesn’t mean I’ll make the best of it.
-
How do I make the best out of my life? What do I believe? What choices am I making daily? Are my choices and my beliefs hindering me and keeping me stuck? Are my actions matching up with what I “say” my beliefs are? Are my daily habits & choices reflective of God’s character? I may not be making bad decisions but am I making the best decisions for my life? What determines how I even make my decisions? Hmm…
-
Today I decided to read over in the book of Ruth (Which happens to be the 8th book of the Bible). Verse 8 of the 1st chapter states, “And Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, “Go, return each to her mother’s house. The LORD deal kindly with you, as you have dealt with the dead and with me.”
-
Naomi’s husband and sons were now dead. She is telling her daughters-in-law to leave her and go start new lives. Here the daughters-in-law are at the point of decision. They must make a choice. Would leaving Naomi be the best choice to make? Ruth decided to stay with Naomi and serve Naomi’s God and well, long story short, she was blessed beyond measure. Choices!
-
Life is about choices. Everyday we make them. We make the choice to live for God. We choose to do right vs. wrong. We choose to forgive or be bitter and resentful. We choose to love or hate. We choose to live a healthy lifestyle or not. We choose to treat people with kindness or curse them out. We choose to be happy or sad. We choose to have joy or not. We choose to make decisions that move us forward or choose to stay stuck. We choose to take responsibility or place blame. Choices! We choose to live with integrity. We choose to walk by faith. We choose to speak what God says vs. speaking what we feel or what our circumstances say. We choose life or death. Choices!
-
I challenge you today to take an honest look at the choices you are making in your life. Could you be making better choices? For real- think about it. Are you not happy with the place you are in life? The life you live today is reflective of the previous choices you have already made. What could you do differently? You’re just choices away from a better spot. Make the better choice this week.  It may appear to be a harder one but in the long run, it will work much better in your favor and will bring you closer to where you want to be. Most time better choices can require change on our part and change can be difficult- but isn’t it worth it!
-
Lamentations 3: 21-23 states, “This I recall to my mind, Therefore I have hope. Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.”
-
We must remember that God’s mercies are new every morning but we must make the best out of each morning by making the choice to apply His word to our daily talk and our daily walk! Just something to think about.
-
Until next time, Stay encouraged and Stay in God’s presence! The choice is yours!
