Our Deepest Fear
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” - Marianne Williamson
The above Marianne Williamson quote has been one of my favorite for years and years. I have it posted on my computer as well as in my home and in the office. The first time I read it, I identified so with it. It spoke loudly to me. I wanted to share it with you today because, well, probably because I needed to read it myself. I needed to remind myself of who I am. I had to remember that I can’t be afraid of who I am- of who God created me to be and that it is ok for me to walk in greatness because I was created by Greatness for greatness!
Sometimes we come up with so many excuses as to why we don’t succeed or why we don’t finish what we start. When the truth is we are afraid- afraid of failure, afraid of success, afraid of being able to maintain, afraid of what others will think . . . Boy, I tell you, if we can just get past the fear– burst through the barriers of our mind and actually believe the promises of God, we will live our dreams! We will fulfill our destiny and the assignment on our lives!
Where is fear paralyzing you? Be honest because where fear is, faith isn’t. Hmmm… Now let’s pause and think on that. How do we build up our faith so that fear won’t rule us? Faith comes by constantly hearing and rehearsing the Word of God (See Romans 10:17). What are we hearing? What are we listening to? What do we believe? Well, I just wanted to give us few things to think about today.
